Setting up your clock is a simple process of aligning the physical hands with the internal chime. Use this guide to get your clock running accurately.
Step 1: Attaching the Hands
If your hands are not yet attached, follow this order:
- The Hour Hand: Place the shorter hand onto the center post first and press until firm. It doesn't matter which way it points for now.
- The Minute Hand: Place the longer hand on next. Wiggle it slightly left and right until it drops into its keyed slot and sits snugly.
Step 2: Finding the "Zero" Point
To make sure the clock chimes at the right time, you need to find where the "hour" starts:
- Rotate the Minute Hand: Only move the minute hand in a clockwise direction.
- Trigger the Bird: Keep moving the hand until the bird comes out to cuckoo.
- Reset to 12:00: Stop as soon as it chimes. Pull both hands straight off and put them back on so they both point exactly at 12:00.
Step 3: Setting the Current Time
- Move Forward Only: To set the actual time, only move the minute hand clockwise. Never force the hands backward.
- Don't Overshoot: It is better to move slowly as you get close to the current time. If you go past the minute you want, you’ll need to rotate forward through the next hour to get back to it.
- No Hour Markers?: If your clock face doesn't have numbers, we recommend waiting until exactly Noon, 3:00, or 6:00 to set it so you can align the hands perfectly with the design.
Step 4: Syncing the Chime Count
If the number of cuckoos doesn't match the hour on the clock face, use the side control:
- The Cuckoo Button: Locate the small button on the side of the clock.
- Correcting the Count: Each time you press it, the chime count moves forward by one hour.
- Example: If the hands show 6:00 but the bird only cuckoos four times, press the button twice. This fixes the sound without you having to move the hands at all.
